My last thought was getting the 16-55 f2.8 and selling my kit lens and shooting at the higher focal lengths would give me a shallow DOF. I also have started doing some light video stuff, recording travel experience on my gimbal, etc. Would love any advice on which lens would be best for my current needs. Right now I am leaning toward the 35mm f2.
This Fuji 16-80mm is a general-purpose zoom. It goes a little wider and longer than the smaller 18-55mm f/2.8-4, but this 16-80mm is bigger and more expensive. It's made of metal and plastic. This 16-80mm is super sharp, as almost all lenses are today, and it also gets very close, probably replacing a macro lens for most people.

Thread resurrection, I realise, but I have found the same issue with an X-H1 and 16-55 f2.8. I had been routinely using back button focusing and with the recently-acquired 16-55, was noticing inaccurate focus on a regular basis. Eventually noticed that the focus problems seem to abate when using AF-S and Shutter AF ON.
The 16-55 was comparable to some of the Fuji f2 primes at certain focal lengths and the 24-70 is comparable for shits with detail - eg: bricks on buildings. Foliage is less problematic and general rendering in flat light seems to retain better detail, even compared to some of the Fuji primes.
The biggest surprise when the XF 16mm f/2.8 R WR was released was the fact that Fujifilm chose to make it a max f/2.8 lens instead of f/2. The XF 16mm f/2.8 R WR came out as the last in a line of lenses nicknamed the Fujicrons (after Leica’s f/2 Summicron lenses), which all have a max f/2 f-stop with similar design features and specs.
My practical review of the 16-55 Fuji f2.8 after using it as my main lens for the last 12 months. PRESETS:
Size Matters. The first thing I noticed about the XF16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR was the size. It is quite a bit larger than its predecessor, the Fuji 18-55mm “kit” lens. I had just photographed my first wedding with my new Fuji gear and borrowed the 18-55mm because the 16-55 hadn’t shipped yet. The results from the 18-55 were underwhelming.
